Alright strategy fun. But come on people, you want something special to sperate someone who's played for 6 months rather than 6 days. I love strategic gameplay as much as the next guy, but I also like having a cool weapon, it dosen't need Uber-over-the-top-stats. But something rare, is always a good feeling, so yeh I agree, a few more really rare items won't hurt anyone.

Still disagree. You've already got rares, they are rare. How do you know we need more of them? You've got dyes, expensive armours, hafts/pommels/strings and such to customise weapons, rares and so on that you can't possibly have seen. On what basis can you possibly be claiming that we need more of them, two days in? There's plenty to separate them.

I am just happy that when I find precious items I dont' have gollum following me around. That would be pretty creepy. Why would a game drop rare items a lot? If everyone got a rare item then it wouldn't be rare then, would it? I wonder if there is a faq on the levels of items. So far I've run across strictly blue items of the following states: precious, extra damage/energy, high return on scrapping, and gray quest items for quests I don't have . I can't figure that last one out...

"Guild War rewards player skill, not time spent playing."

Someone really needs to sticky a thread with that quote as the post.

I have said this a dozen times.

Games are different - different strokes for different folks.

Any sort of fanboyism posts [oooh WoW is so much better/the suck] will be removed.

No, no, no. There are plenty of games like that which reward you for farming mobs over and over, or camping a spawn for a once a week shot at some uber weapon. If you want to separate yourself for someone then play better than them. Make sure that you get involved on the ladder. Let your skills tell how good you are.

If uber loot and having something others do not is what you are looking for than perhaps this is not the game for you. If you need to feel better than someone based on the amount of time you have invested then (hopefully) this is not the game for you. If you want a level playing field for a RPG PvP game, then this is the game for you.

Man this thread is just spawning hate. I found my first purple weapon yesterday and it was awesome (there are yellows to? sweet). I cant use the bow but its deffinatly a cut above the ordinary. Because the weapons are so ballanced a hammer that does 40 damage is amazing it doesn't sound all that but in-game it kicks. Unfortunatly you will have to do some farming(for weapons and runes) if you want to be the best in PvP, or if you want to make a very specific character. Its grind but it's not bad, and you can have a lot of fun doing it,especially with a cool group!!

Now finding an awesome item will be worth so much more because it's rare and it took skill(well played character and team) to get.

No hate, just a statement. This is a different game and people who just picked it up might be sorely disapointed. Quotes that want people to be differentiated by their hard won gear aren't really applicable for this game. It is true that if your goal is to differentiate yourself from everyone else, then this game is not for you. GW doesn't offer a lot of visual cues for character cistomization at this point. Nor does it seem to have gear that can only be held by the hardcore devoted players.

I'd love it for everyone to stay and enjoy it, more people to PvP with. However, the realist in me knows that it's not for everyone. Too many people equate time = skill since that's the yardstick in so many other games.

I posted to point out the overall goal of the game and to voice support for it. I am hoping that this is not just another MMO and it seems they have kept pretty true to that. No hate here

Oh yeh I lost myself! I was being so stupid! Wanting a cool weapon! BaH! What was I thinking! Guild Wars! Fancy Weapons! NO WAY!
Surely not, guild wars taking ideas from less strategic RPGs!!! Blasphemy! For goodness sake, there's nothing bloody wrong with a nice cool weapon which you can show off with, as I said earlier, this skill stuff is a refreshign change, but we don't need to drop every fundamental MMOG idea, rarewm weapons are there for a reason, to make you stand out and maybe a bit more powerful, a trophy for past conquests. All this skill stuff is driving me up the wall, it's great that it's their, but I can almost gurantee 50% of the members here play this game, because it's a great MMOG with no subscription, not because you have to use strategy to play. So why not feed the people what they want, more rare stuff.

The game is based on player skill more than who has been lucky enough to find uber items. If you want a game where you need items to play go to WOW, if you want a game where 3rd party programs help you play go to AC.

I agree, uber items suck, but having a cool appearance or whatever, surely that is not too much to ask [in fact this is already there, but a few rare weapon variations would be nice]. Isn't that an intergral part of an RPG, the items?

Well, I have a lvl 60 hunter in WoW and I will continue to play that game, as well as this one. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. As far as PvP, I'd say WoW is more freeflowing and unpredictable, plus the 1v1 battles can be a lot of fun. On the other hand, GW PvP on the other hand is much more strategic, and doesn't leave you at the mercy of ridiculous imbalances like in WoW. To put it another way, to win in PvP in GW you need to utilize strategy both before and during the battle and work as a team. To win in WoW, just make sure you have a shaman or a shadow priest on your team and you'll usually win.

I dont know if I would say that WoW combat is more unpredictable. In my experience it was normally one side crushing the other because of either a preponderance of numbers or levels. Most of the fights were a lvl 50 on a 30 or 5 level 60s on 1. Both of those very predictable. At least in Guildwars I go into a battle thinking Ive got a shot to win.

PvP encounters in WoW are unpredictable-it's not even worth arguing. In GW you won't ever be strolling down a road and suddenly be ambushed by a player hiding behind a tree.

When and where the encounters happen is often unpredictable, but often the outcome is very predictable.

Rares do exist...if they were too common they wouldn't be rare!

Here's one I found earlier

Here, I created a simple equation that will make this problem most elemtary:
Uber rare items = less difficulty
less difficulty = less fun
less fun = less people playing, which in turn creates a smaller comunity, with smaller guilds and less PvP. Is that what you want?
